Halloween in Iraq

When thinking of Halloween decorating, usually thoughts of hanging ghosts and goblins in the windows, placing a bowl of candy next to the front door and carving a pumpkin with a scary face to place on the porch come to mind.  This year, SPC Leslee George of HHC, 2-149th General Support Battalion (GSAB) has brought that fun of home to her company area.

When some of the Soldiers of B Co. 2-149th GSAB sent home messages asking for decorations, that is just what they got.  As the boxes started showing up, SPC George went to work.

Hanging decorations is nothing new for SPC George; she has been doing it for years with her own children at home in Grand Prairie, Tex.  As a mother of two, Leslee enjoys spending time with her daughter, Jenna, 6 yrs, and son, Landon, who is almost 3 yrs. 

“One of mine and my kids’ favorite things to do together is decorate for the holidays,” SPC George said. 

While SPC George is decorating to feel connected with her children, she is also trying to bring home to her fellow Soldiers.

 “It was something that would remind the Soldiers of time spent with their own children,” SPC George said. 

SPC George misses her children who are staying with their grandmother in Grand Prairie while she is deployed. She wants her family back home to know that though we are so far apart from our own families, we are still carrying on our family traditions with our Soldiering brothers and sisters here in Iraq.

 “The flight into Iraq was not that scary, but the command post sure is!” said B Co. Commander, Captain Jason D. Rowe, of Fort Worth Texas.
