Ladies Night Out Tournament

The weekend of 24 October, 2008, the 1-244th Assault Helicopter Battalion hosted Ladies Night Out. Six women’s basketball teams came out to represent their units at the Balad East MWR. CPT Marlin Jenkins of Easy Company sent out feelers to units around Balad and the challenge was met.

Most of the teams represented units such as the Lady Jokers (2-149 General Support Aviation Battalion), H6 Huslas (Air Force) and our own Voodoo Dolls. The Outlaws, LAPD, and All Day were comprised of team members from different branches and units based on Joint Base Balad.

The tournament opened up on Friday night 24 Oct., 08 with the Lady Jokers defeating the Outlaws and the Voodoo Dolls defeating the H-6 Huslas. Saturday night, LAPD defeated the Lady Jokers coming off of a first round bye to advance to the Championship Game that was to be held Monday night. Our Voodoo Dolls beat All Day which led them into a head on collision with LAPD for the Championship.

Monday night found the Voodoo Dolls up against the physical and formidable LAPD. The Dolls started the first quarter well but LAPD proved to be too tough down the stretch beating the Dolls handily to win the First Annual Ladies Night Out Tournament.

Congratulations to the Voodoo Dolls for finishing strong in the tournament. We express our gratitude to CPT Jenkins and those who helped for hosting and putting on such an excellent event.
