Rock Band and a Fajita Feast

Rock Band and a fajita feast bring the Soldiers of 2-149th General Support Aviation Battalion Headquarters together on Christmas this year.  After deploying into theater in September the unit has been working nonstop to complete their mission here in Iraq, being a supporting element they work around the clock and behind the scenes, so most people never see the hard work they do.  The Unit took a little time off on Christmas Day to spend some time together.

With the war off in the distance, and helicopters flying overhead, HHC’s Commander Capt. Carisa Kimbro of Burleson, Texas, and Staff Sgt. Jeffrey Johnson of Mansfield Texas started cooking up the fajitas on the barbeque for the Soldiers.  As the food was cooking Soldiers started darts and chess tournaments. All the while other Soldiers started playing the Rock Band video game; in which up to four people can play fake musical instruments to real rock songs each becoming a rockin' superstar.

Maj. Jay Hancock of Plano, Texas who was playing the game for the first time tried playing the drums and was truly smashing. “I thought it would be fun. Hancock said after his three song set.  Spec.  David Rodriguez of Dallas, Texas who is probably the unit best player was rippin it up on lead guitar. Spec. Bethany M. McNamara of Little Elm, Texas an all time favorite here in Iraq had a firm hand on bass guitar.  And last but certainly not least Chaplain (Maj.) John Berry of Georgetown, Texas sang his version of Survivor’s song ‘Eye of the Tiger’, which we will never forget.

The party went on for hours on into the night with good food and a few friends, each new song drawing the unit closer together while they are so far away from home.
